Temporada de Premios: Nominados a la 95va entrega de los Academy Awards

"Everything Everywhere All at Once", una retorcida aventura de ciencia ficción, lideró las nominaciones para la 95va edición de los Premios de la Academia el martes por la mañana, con 11 nominaciones. Le siguió de cerca "All Quiet on the Western Front", una epopeya de la Primera Guerra Mundial, y " The Banshees of Inisherin ", una mirada oscuramente cómica sobre la amistad que se desarrolla en el contexto de la guerra civil irlandesa, los cuales anotaron nueve nominaciones.

Las tres películas competirán por la mejor película, en lo que se perfila como una colección de homenajeados con mucho más éxito comercial que en los últimos años. La carrera por la mejor película contiene las dos películas más taquilleras del año, "Avatar: The Way of Water" y "Top Gun: Maverick", junto con "Elvis", una película biográfica musical que atrajo al público el verano pasado. Competirá por el premio al director contra Spielberg, Todd Field ("Tár"), Martin McDonagh ("The Banshees of Inisherin") y el dúo de directores formado por Daniel Kwan y Daniel Scheinert ("Everything Everywhere All at Once"). Es una categoría dominada en su totalidad por hombres. Los dos últimos ganadores de mejor director, Jane Campion ("The Power of the Dog") y Chloe Zhao ("Nomadland"), han sido mujeres, y había algunas esperanzas de que Sarah Polley de "Women Talking" pudiera obtener una nominación a mejor dirección.

Las nominaciones se anunciaron en un momento difícil para la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas, la organización sin fines de lucro detrás de los premios y el negocio cinematográfico en sí. Calificaciones para los premios Oscar han disminuido drásticamente en los últimos años, poniendo en peligro las tarifas de licencia de transmisión, la principal fuente de ingresos de la Academia. Hace unos años, Quan había renunciado a la actuación, convencido de que su carrera frente a la cámara había terminado. Y hubo algunas inclusiones sorpresa, quizás ninguna más impresionante que la de Andrea Riseborough, cuya interpretación de una mujer alcohólica en la película independiente poco vista "To Leslie" le valió una nominación a mejor actriz. Su candidatura fue apoyada por una campaña de defensa que involucró a simpatizantes de la lista A como Edward Norton, Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron y Cate Blanchett, quien también fue nominada por su actuación en “Tár”. Riseborough y Blanchett se unen a una carrera por la mejor actriz que incluye a Ana de Armas ("Blonde"), Michelle Williams ("The Fabelmans") y Michelle Yeoh ("Everything Everywhere All at Once").
