Sin mucha fanfarria, la Asociación de la Prensa Extranjera de Hollywood anunció a los ganadores de los Globos de Oro 2022 a través de Twitter el domingo por la noche, sin la presencia de medios ni celebridades caminando por la alfombra roja, como en años anteriores.
“The Power of the Dog” (Netflix) ganó como mejor drama y “West Side Story” (20th Century/Disney) como mejor musical o comedia. Jane Campion recogió el trofeo al mejor director por dirigir "The Power of the Dog", y Kodi Smit-McPhee ganó el premio al mejor actor de reparto por el western. La estrella de "West Side Story" Rachel Zegler fue nombrada mejor actriz en un musical o comedia, y su coprotagonista Ariana DeBose se llevó a casa el premio a la actriz de reparto.
Nicole Kidman ("Being the Ricardos") ganó el premio a la mejor actriz en un drama, mientras que Will Smith ("King Richard") se llevó el premio al actor. Andrew Garfield (“Tick, Tick… Boom!”) se llevó a casa el premio al mejor actor en un musical o una comedia.
Para TV, “Succession” ganó como mejor serie dramática y “Hacks” como mejor serie musical o de comedia, ambas de HBO. La estrella de “Succession”, Jeremy Strong, fue nombrada mejor actor en un drama y la coprotagonista Sarah Snook se llevó el premio a la mejor actriz de reparto. La estrella de "Hacks", Jean Smart, obtuvo el premio a la mejor actriz en un musical o comedia. Michaela Jaé Rodríguez (“Pose”) ganó como mejor actriz en un drama, y Jason Sudeikis (“Ted Lasso”) se llevó a casa el premio a mejor actor en un musical o una comedia.
La HFPA se ha visto envuelta en escándalos desde el programa de 2021, cuando se reveló que no tenía miembros negros y participaba en prácticas comerciales cuestionables. NBC se retiró de la transmisión por televisión para la ceremonia de este año y, desde entonces, la HFPA ha diversificado su membresía y renovado sus estatutos en un intento por salvar las apariencias en Hollywood. La presidenta de la HFPA, Helen Hoehne, anunció los nominados de este año en un evento reducido en diciembre, donde Snoop Dogg se unió a ella para leer las nominaciones.
En los comentarios de apertura durante la escasa ceremonia del domingo, Hoehne dijo: “Vamos a hablar abiertamente sobre lo que estamos aprendiendo y desafiar a otros a unirse a nosotros con miembros de más de 50 países. Tenemos un lugar único en el universo de los premios”. Además de anunciar los ganadores de cine y televisión, la HFPA mostró sus esfuerzos filantrópicos y destacó organizaciones como St. Elmo Village, que brinda un lugar para que las personas exploren su creatividad, y Get Lit, que utiliza la poesía para aumentar la alfabetización de los adolescentes.
En marcado contraste con los años típicos, solo hubo unas pocas apariciones de celebridades, incluidos videos promocionales de Jamie Lee Curtis y Arnold Schwarzenegger en la cuenta de Twitter de los Globos de Oro.
