Temporada de Premios: Ganadores a los Premios de la Academia 2022

Los Premios de la Academia vuelven a dar de qué hablar al otorgarle el premio a Mejor Película a CODA, la gran sorpresa particular de la noche que se llevó junto a este Mejor Actor de Reparto y Mejor Guión Adaptado.

Desde inicios de esta temporada, las nominaciones han sido muy atípicas. Y a pesar de que hubo favoritas y nominados bien poderosos en algunas categorías, cada premiación tuvo su variación a quien premiaba en las categorías principales de la noche. Sin embargo, resulta una sorpresa muy poco grata ver a CODA coronarse con el premio principal a Mejor Película, cuando la competencia le daba ventaja a The Power of the Dog. 

Aún así... hay que reconocer que “CODA” hizo historia por varias partes: se convierte en la primera película de una plataforma de streaming en ganar un Oscar a la mejor película, y su victoria demuestra los cambios que se están dando en la industria para darle apertura a estas temáticas a ser reconocidas en los grandes premios. Aunque no estemos felices de que haya sido esa, da oportunidades a las siguientes historias similares.

Algunas gratas sorpresas fueron Jane Campion convirtiéndose en la tercera mujer en llevarse la estatuilla a Mejor Dirección, mientras que Kenneth Branagh se alzó con Mejor Guión Original con su autobiografía de Belfast.

Temporada de Premios: Ganadores al Screen Actors Guild Awards 2022

CODA, nominada a Mejor Película de Apple TV+, ganó el mayor premio de la noche, con Marlee Matlin, la única actriz sorda en la historia que ha ganado un Oscar, elogiando a SAG por validar el trabajo de los artistas sordos en su emotivo discurso de aceptación (pronunciado a través de un intérprete de ASL).

Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) y Will Smith (King Richard) recibieron grandes impulsos en sus respectivas campañas de los Oscar con victorias principales en los Premios SAG, con Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) llevándose a casa el trofeo de Actriz de Reparto. Aunque se esperaba que Kodi Smit-McPhee de The Power of the Dog se llevara la victoria como actor de reparto en solitario, Troy Kotsur de CODA logró una categoría sorpresiva para convertirse en el primer actor sordo en ganar un premio SAG individual.

En el lado de la televisión, Squid Game obtuvo tres victorias, incluidas dos victorias en solitario para las estrellas Lee Jung-jae y HoYeon Jung, mientras que el conjunto de acrobacias de la serie coreana de acción y suspenso de Netflix también fue honrado. La favorita al Oscar a la Mejor Película, The Power of the Dog, también estuvo notablemente ausente de la categoría SAG para conjuntos cinematográficos, a pesar de que tres de sus actores (Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Kodi Smit-McPhee) obtuvieron nominaciones individuales. Al ganar la Mejor Película en los Oscar 2021,  Nomadland de Chloé Zhao se  convirtió en la cuarta película en la historia (además de  Braveheart,  Green Book y The Shape of Water) en ganar la categoría principal de la Academia a pesar de perderse una nominación de conjunto de SAG. The Power of the Dog parece tener una buena oportunidad de repetir esa tendencia en los Oscar del 27 de marzo.
