Temporada de Premios 2024: Nominados a la 96ta entrega de los Academy Awards

“Oppenheimer” lidera las nominaciones con un total de 13 nominaciones, seguida de “Poor Things” con 11 nominaciones, “Killers of the Flower Moon” con 10 nominaciones y “Barbie” con ocho nominaciones. Competirán en la categoría de Mejo Película con “American Fiction”, “Anatomy of a Fall”, “The Holdovers”, “Maestro”, “Past Lives” y “The Zone of Interest”.

Oppenheimer lidera las nominaciones al Oscar 2024, que se dieron a conocer el martes por la mañana. La película obtuvo un total de 13 nominaciones, seguida de Poor Things con 11, Killers of the Flower Moon con 10 y Barbie con ocho.

La 96ª entrega de los Premios de la Academia se transmitirá en vivo de costa a costa por ABC el domingo 10 de marzo desde el Dolby Theatre de Ovation Hollywood.

Jimmy Kimmel regresará por cuarta vez como presentador, pero una novedad de este año es que se transmitirán a un nuevo horario más temprano, de 4 p.m. a 7:30 p.m. (Hora del Pacífico) / 7 p.m. a 10:30 p.m. (Hora del este).

Temporada de Premios 2024: Ganadores a la 29va entrega de los Critics Choice Awards

Oppenheimer fue nombrada mejor película en los Critics Choice Awards 2024, que se entregaron el domingo por la noche.

Los galardones de la película, ocho victorias en total, también incluyeron las categorías en mejor actor reparto para Robert Downey Jr. "Barbie" obtuvo el premio a la mejor comedia, la mejor canción por “I'm Just Ken” y el mejor guión original, entre sus premios, mientras que "American Fiction" ganó el premio al mejor guión adaptado. Paul Giamatti y Da'Vine Joy Randolph ganaron premios de actuación por "The Holdovers", y Emma Stone ganó por "Poor Things".

"Succession" ganó el premio a la mejor serie dramática, mientras que Sarah Snook y Kieran Culkin se llevaron premios de actuación por su trabajo en la serie. "The Bear" fue nombrada mejor serie de comedia, y Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri y Ebon Moss-Bachrach se llevaron a casa premios de actuación. Temporada de Premios 2024: Ganadores a la 81ra entrega de los Golden Globes

Crónica Cinéfila: Cine del 2023, lo que más me gustó y lo que me decepcionó

Estamos saliendo de un año bastante diverso en el mundo del entretenimiento. Después de grandes historias y fracasos, apertura a tramas complejas y una huelga de 148 días que paralizó toda producción, estreno y distribución de películas y series importantes, el 2023 parece haber durado más de 365 días. 

Creo que hablo por muchos al reconocer que este fue un año muy particular para la industria del cine. Definitivamente fue un año para preferencias, porque a lo mejor esta lista la vean totalmente diferente a cómo yo la veo; pero como dicen por ahí, "para los gustos, los colores", y esta es mi opinión personal con la cual pueden o no coincidir. 

Este es mi selección de películas del 2023, las que más me gustaron y las que más me decepcionaron:

Me gustó Barbie

¡Por supuesto que debo iniciar con la película que salvó la experiencia de ir al cine! La película toma lo que podría haber sido un comercial extendido de Mattel y canaliza el complicado legado de la querida muñeca en una historia sobre el impacto tóxico del patriarcado y las presiones de la feminidad performativa. Con un toque místico del sistema, la directora Greta Gerwig combina su fantasía feminista en un paquete musical en tecnicolor repleto de algunos de los mejores chistes del año. Margot Robbie recorre perfectamente la línea entre la feliz ignorancia y el despertar irónico como Barbie, mientras que Ryan Gosling es divinamente tonto (y sorprendentemente vulnerable) como "simplemente Ken". Pero quizás el mayor juego de manos de la película es su capacidad para perforar la fantasía de la casa de los sueños de Barbie y dar un golpe emocional sin perder nunca el sentido del humor. La vida de plástico definitivamente no es fantástica, pero Barbie fue impresionante.

No me gustó The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Igual debo comenzar esta categoría con una película que llevó a muchos a la sala de cine, pero en este caso su corta duración se hizo eterna. Si bien pudo haber sido la más exitosa en términos de taquilla, realmente nadie pidió una película como esta. Para los que no son jugadores, es el tipo de películas que se siente como un videojuego, solo que aquí no podemos tomar ni una sola decisión. Para los que sí son jugadores, por más brillante y colorido, la cantidad de huevos de Pascua que le dejaron a los fanáticos, fue una película diseñada para niños muy pequeños que seguro no se preocuparán por el tiempo y la poca narrativa.

Me gustó Talk to Me

Dirigida por los hermanos gemelos Danny y Michael Philippou, conocidos por su canal de YouTube RackaRacka, la película sigue la historia de Mia, una adolescente en luto interpretada por Sophie Wilde. El intento de Mia de utilizar un truco de fiesta sobrenatural para comunicarse con los muertos se vuelve cada vez más riesgoso, lo que tiene consecuencias aterradoras mientras intenta conectarse con su difunta madre. La película se destaca por sus imágenes inventivas, su sangre impactante y la capacidad de los hermanos Philippou para crear una sensación de inquietud en todo momento mientras tenemos un entendimiento distinto de lo que significaría "quedarse en el limbo".

No me gustó The Exorcist: Believer

Una muy esperada de mi parte, y al final, muy decepcionante. Aunque es muy probable que solo los verdaderos fanáticos hubiesen esperado más de esta película, no deja de llevar el nombre de un clásico del terror que muchos deseamos ver con una secuela decente/pasable/amigable/única en el cine. "The Exorcist: Believer" decidió irse por la misma fórmula de su original y se le olvidó ser novedoso en el camino. No solo utiliza una narrativa que le falta potencia para sorprender a la audiencia del siglo XXI, sino que se quedó corta en sustos, diálogos, escenas, y hasta en protagonistas o tomadores de decisiones reales... porque secundarios y extras bastaron.

Me gustó Saltburn

Quizás ninguna película sea más polarizadora este año que Saltburn, una visión perversamente gótica de la obsesión, la riqueza y el deseo que no tiene ningún efecto. Barry Keoghan lidera un conjunto estelar como el lobo con traje de oveja, Oliver Quick. Es una actuación de truco de magia, fascinante por la pura audacia y abandono con el que ataca sus escenas más escandalosas. Cuando el y atractivo Felix (Jacob Elordi) invita a Oliver a su mansión titular durante el verano, se pone en marcha una trágica espiral que atrae a Oliver a la órbita de la familia Catton (que cobra vida gracias a uno de los mejores conjuntos de actuación del año). Con "Promising Young Woman", Emerald Fennell estableció su voz totalmente única, pero Saltburn la refina, empapando su lente con los excesos del dinero antiguo y el fascinante poder del deseo. Este año no hay ningún viaje más salvaje en el cine, ni uno más visualmente deslumbrante. Saltburn nos hizo perder la cabeza, de la mejor manera posible. 

No me gustó Freddy

He comenzado a cuestionar la necesidad de los biopics si no le harán justicia a su narrador de la manera que este merece. Freddy es una película que sirve de ejemplo. La trama que está supuesta a contar como esta gran figura de la televisión dominicana, interpretada aquí por Luis José Germán, no solo carece de una revisión en sus aspectos cinematográficos (la película tiene el estilo de un comercial largo por falta de evolución en su cinematografía y musicalización) también le falta una narrativa coherente, objetivos e incluso un enfoque. La intención de su director está claramente ahí, pero es evidente que enaltecer la figura de Freddy y cómo logró posicionarse no eran de su interés.

Me gustó Oppenheimer

Teoría y práctica. Esos son los dos polos que definen la física atómica, el comunismo internacional y la obra maestra de Christopher Nolan. Cuando los espectadores conocen por primera vez a la encarnación de J. Robert Oppenheimer en Cillian Murphy, él es un físico teórico tan en sintonía con las nuevas ideas científicas que literalmente puede ver la belleza del mundo cuántico que lo rodea. También es un joven idealista que no puede evitar simpatizar con los movimientos socialistas que surgieron en todo el mundo entre las dos grandes guerras. A lo largo de la película, Oppenheimer trabaja duro para llevar sus ideas a la realidad, solo para darse cuenta después de que pudo haber destruido las mismas cosas que tanto amaba. Lleno de grandes ideas, detalles visuales impresionantes y actuaciones increíbles, Oppenheimer (junto con Barbie) señala el camino hacia un nuevo y brillante futuro para las películas de Hollywood, al mismo tiempo que nos recuerda que no debemos dar por sentada la estabilidad de nuestro propio mundo.

No me gustó Killers of the Flower Moon

Es fácil imaginar cómo habría sido Los asesinos de la luna de flores en manos de un cineasta adecuado a su tema y su historia. El libro de David Grann de 2017 se centra en el reinado del terror de los Osage, cuando los colonos blancos en Oklahoma en la década de 1920 atacaron y asesinaron sistemáticamente a los osage ricos. Otro director podría haber abordado el tema desde el punto de vista más lógico, como el de las víctimas y los héroes de la historia. En cambio, Martin Scorsese y el coguionista Eric Roth literalmente se meten con los criminales, concentrándose en el matrimonio entre la mujer Osage Mollie Burkhart (Lily Gladstone) y su marido blanco Ernest (Leonardo DiCaprio). El resultado es una película que es en parte una epopeya criminal y en parte un drama matrimonial, con excelentes actuaciones, pero una duración completamente innecesaria y una cuestión resonante durante toda la película de por qué Scorsese está haciendo esta película.

Me gustó Past Lives

En los últimos años se ha hablado mucho de la desaparición de las conmovedoras comedias románticas de Hollywood, a medida que los superhéroes y otras franquicias taquilleras absorbían todo el oxígeno de la pantalla grande. Tal vez es por eso que "Past Lives" tuvo tal impacto este año, cuya escritora protagonista Nora Moon (Greta Lee) se pregunta si realmente pertenece a su esposo Arthur (John Magaro) o a su amor de infancia (Teo Yoo). Al igual que el enamoramiento de la primera infancia que describe la historia, la película con sentimientos profundos se ha grabado con fuerza en las mentes y los corazones de cualquiera que la haya visto. 

No me gustó Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

“En 'Quantumania', el ritmo alegre y el humor alegre han sucumbido a la seriedad turgente que plaga gran parte del canon del cómic. Paul Rudd hace un intento de proyectar su simpatía irresistible como Scott Lang, el antiguo ladrón que, como Ant-Man, es el miembro más pequeño del equipo de los Avengers. Pero cuando comienza 'Quantumania', y nos encontramos con Scott leyendo sus nuevas memorias, 'Look Out for the Little Guy', en un atrevido montaje con el tema de 'Welcome Back, Kotter', uno puede detectar que toda esa increíble esencia que se impregnó en el superhéroe y su película anterior se ha perdido totalmente. Culpen el "blip" o al COVID, pero Ant-Man se siente diferente en el peor de los sentidos posibles.

Temporada de Premios 2024: Nominados a la 29na entrega de los Critics Choice Awards

"Barbie" lidera las nominaciones a películas de la crítica con 18 nominaciones. Mientras "Oppenheimer" y "Poor Things" cada uno obtuvo 13 nominaciones, seguido de "Killers of the Flower Moon" que obtuvo 12 nominaciones. En la categoría de series, The Morning Show lidera con seis nominaciones, incluidas mejor serie dramática y mejor actriz en una serie dramática para Jennifer Aniston y Reese Witherspoon, seguida de Succession con cinco, incluidas nominaciones a mejor serie dramática y mejor actor en serie dramática para Kieran Culkin y Jeremy Strong.

Barbie, Oppenheimer, Poor Things y Killers of the Flower Moon están nominadas a mejor película , junto a American Fiction, Maestro, Past Lives, Saltburn, The Color Purple y The Holdovers.

Barbie también obtuvo nominaciones a mejor comedia, peluquería y maquillaje, mejor dirección (Greta Gerwig), mejor guión original (Gerwig y Noah Baumbach), mejor actriz (Margot Robbie), actor de reparto (Ryan Gosling), mejor actriz de reparto (America Ferrera), mejor actor/actriz joven (Ariana Greenblatt), mejor reparto actoral, mejor fotografía (Rodrigo Prieto), mejor diseño de producción (Sarah Greenwood y Katie Spencer), mejor montaje (Nick Houy), mejor diseño de vestuario (Jacqueline Durran) y mejor música ( Mark Ronson y Andrew Wyatt). Varias de las canciones exitosas de la película también fueron nominadas, incluidas “Dance the Night”, “I’m Just Ken” y “What Was I Made For”.

La Critics Choice Association reveló sus nominaciones televisivas la semana pasada, que "The Fall of the Usher" lideraba con seis nominaciones. Sin embargo, la organización corrigió un error en las nominaciones de TV, señalando que Carla Gugino también estaba nominada a mejor actriz de miniserie o telefilm por su papel en The Morning Show.
