Temporada de Premios 2024: Ganadores a la 96ta entrega de los Academy Awards

Oppenheimer fue nombrada mejor película en los Oscar 2024, que se entregaron el domingo.

La película de Christopher Nolan se llevó un total de siete premios durante la noche: a Nolan le otorgaron el premio al mejor director, Cillian Murphy ganó el premio al mejor actor y Robert Downey Jr. ganó el premio al mejor actor de reparto. La película también ganó premios a mejor fotografía, mejor banda sonora original y mejor edición.

Emma Stone ganó el premio a la mejor actriz por Poor Things, la cual también obtuvo tres premios de arte, por mejor diseño de vestuario, diseño de producción, y maquillaje y peluquería. Da'Vine Joy Randolph ganó el premio a la mejor actriz de reparto por The Holdovers.

The Boy and the Heron, de Hayao Miyazaki y Toshio Suzuki, se llevó el premio a la mejor película de animación, mientras que The Zone of Interest, de Jonathan Glazer, ganó el Oscar a la mejor película internacional y mejor sonido. 20 days in Mariupol ganó el premio al mejor documental.

Billie Eilish y Finneas O'Connell ganaron el Oscar a la mejor canción original por "What Was I Made For?" de Barbie, ella convirtiéndose en la ganadora más joven en recibir dos premios Oscars.

Justine Triet y Arthur Harari ganaron el premio al mejor guión original por Anatomy of a Fall, mientras que Cord Jefferson ganó el premio al mejor guión adaptado por American Fiction.

Temporada de Premios 2024: Ganadores a la 77ma entrega de los British Academy Film Awards

“Y el BAFTA es para... Oppenheimer”. Esas palabras estuvieron en boca de los presentadores de la ceremonia de los Premios BAFTA, en un total de siete ocasiones en la ceremonia británica ocurrida el pasado domingo, presentada por el actor escocés David Tennant (Doctor Who,  Inside Man).

Los premios para "Oppenheimer" incluyeron el premio al mejor actor para Cillian Murphy, al mejor actor de reparto para Robert Downey Jr., al mejor director para Christopher Nolan y a la mejor película para Nolan y otros miembros del equipo cinematográfico. Los dos premios BAFTA para Nolan significan que la tercera vez fue la vencida para el gran cineasta británico que nunca antes había ganado un premio de la Academia Británica.

Oppenheimer había liderado el grupo al inicio de la noche con 13 nominaciones. Sin embargo, el ganador del récord BAFTA sigue siendo "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", la película de 1969 dirigida por George Roy Hill y protagonizada por Paul Newman y Robert Redford, con nueve BAFTA.

La comedia negra y fantástica científica de Yorgos Lanthimos,  "Poor Things", que había sido nominada en 11 categorías, también tuvo una gran noche en los BAFTA, ganando cinco, incluido uno para Emma Stone como mejor actriz. "The Zone of Interest", de Jonathan Glazer,  recibió tres premios de nueve nominaciones. 

Pero el drama criminal occidental de Martin Scorsese, "Killers of the Flower Moon", que también había alcanzado nueve nominaciones, terminó sin ganar, al igual que Barbie y Maestro.

La estrella alemana Sandra Hüller también se quedó sin reconocimientos tras haber sido nominada a "The Zone of Interest" en la categoría de mejor actriz de reparto y como mejor actriz principal por su papel en  "Anatomy of a Fall". Al final, el reconocimiento a mejor actriz de reparto fue para Da'Vine Joy Randolph por "The Holdovers", mientras que Stone recibió el BAFTA a la mejor actriz. La victoria de esta última en un campo de nominaciones muy competitivo, que incluía a Fantasia Barrino ("The Color Purple") y Vivian Oparah ("Rye Lane") significa que los espectadores del BAFTA siguen teniendo que esperar por la primera ganadora negra a mejor actriz. 

Stone cautivó al público con un discurso de aceptación, en el que agradeció a su madre, por darle la vida y ser la mejor persona que conoce, y a su profesor de dialecto, por no reírse cuando tuvo que enseñarle a decir “agua” en inglés en lugar del estilo americano, dado que su personaje era británico. “Gracias, Inglaterra, por aceptarme”, añadió. También provocó risas cuando agradeció al guionista de Poor Things, Tony McNamara, por la frase "Debo ir a golpear a ese bebé". Stone dijo: “Me cambió la vida”.

Otro momento memorable de la noche fue el premio a la mejor película de animación para "The Boy and The Heron" de la leyenda del anime japonés Hayao Miyazaki y Toshio Suzuki. Sin embargo, los ganadores no estuvieron presentes.

Crítica Cinéfila: Poor Things

Bella Baxter es una joven revivida por el brillante y poco ortodoxo científico Dr. Godwin Baxter. Bajo la protección de Baxter, Bella está ansiosa por aprender. Hambrienta de la mundanidad que le falta, Bella se escapa con Duncan Wedderburn, un sofisticado y perverso abogado, en una aventura vertiginosa a través de los continentes. Emma Stone es una mujer que comienza de cero en la nueva y sorprendente película de Yorgos Lanthimos, “ Poor Things”. Para la mayoría de nosotros, la vida se compone de conocimientos y circunstancias que tardamos décadas en acumular hasta que morimos. Para Bella Baxter de Stone, ese proceso ocurre en dos horas y media, gracias a un procedimiento de reanimación después que la encuentran una vez una mujer muerta flotando en un río, ahora viva nuevamente con el cerebro de su hijo no nacido dentro de su cabeza.

Bella, de soltera Victoria, es una tabula viva que respira, libre de presiones sociales, decoro o sutilezas. Y Stone, en su interpretación más descaradamente extraña hasta la fecha, la interpreta como una niña pequeña que da sus primeros pasos y dice sus primeras palabras, hasta que al final de “Poor Things” ella habla francés con fluidez y estudia anatomía, con los ojos y los oídos llenos de emoción y mundanería.

Realizado audazmente con un diseño de producción de color caramelizado, decorados alucinantes repletos de suficientes irrealidades de huevos de Pascua como para llenar el rompecabezas más difícil de 5,000 piezas, y trajes victorianos tremendamente exagerados que también parecen hechos por una costurera esquizoide. Y con la suficiente sobredosis de azucar, también es histéricamente divertida y la película más atrevida que probablemente verás en todo el año.

Lanthimos nos sitúa en lo que parece un Londres victoriano del siglo XIX, pero las sutilezas surrealistas que sólo aumentan en su extrañeza sugieren un mundo abierto y agrietado fuera de lugar y tiempo: los carruajes tirados por caballos son literalmente mitad caballo, mitad carruaje, los pájaros tienen caras de tiburón y una quimera mitad cerdo, mitad gallina camina por las calles sin que nadie se lo piense. Estas anomalías médicas experimentales se le atribuyen al funerario y científico enloquecido Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe, sombríamente tranquilizador).

Está marcado, literal y psíquicamente, por los tormentos de su padre, cirujano, y ahora tiene un rostro que parece un cuadro de Picasso, como si lo hubieran cortado, desarmado, reorganizado al azar y vuelto a coser. También es un eunuco que tiene que “hacer mis propios jugos gástricos”. Uno de sus protegidos en el quirófano es el médico novato del pueblo, Max McCandles (Ramy Youssef, adorablemente inepto y perpetuamente atónito), y juntos le devuelven la vida a Bella Baxter, y Max espera casarse con ella.

"Qué adorable retardada", le dice McCandles a Godwin (a quien Bella acabará llamando simplemente "Dios") sobre su creación nacida de nuevo mientras Bella se pone a golpear superficies, orinarse y balbucear tonterías en un inglés entrecortado que poco a poco empieza a tomar una forma lingüística más reconocible. Ahora sobre esa obscenidad antes mencionada: parte de la curva de aprendizaje existencial de Bella, por supuesto, viene con el descubrimiento de la masturbación y, finalmente, el sexo, del cual “Poor Things” está lleno de una cantidad escandalosa. Bella hace algo con una manzana que hará que todos olviden a Elio y el durazno de “Call Me by Your Name” y, todavía en un estado pueril y lascivo, llama al sexo “saltos furiosos”, sugiriendo a McCandles que tal vez “se tocan las partes genitales del otro”.

“Poor Things” en última instancia trata sobre el viaje erótico de Bella desde fuera del escenario del espejo freudiano hacia el mundo como un ser sexual despierto. Lanthimos y el guionista de “The Favourite”, Tony McNamara, a partir de una novela epistolar de 1992 de Alasdair Gray, están fascinados por las formas en que el deseo gobierna toda nuestra toma de decisiones. Al ver esta belleza maximalista de una película en una sala de cine, es difícil resistir el impulso de hacer una pausa y detectar cualquier siguiente locura que se les ocurrió a estos cineastas para poblar los fondos. Más allá de las imágenes orgiásticas, “Poor Things” también está repleta de fabulosos personajes secundarios que van y vienen de la forma picaresca de la educación sentimental y erótica de Bella: Kathryn Hunter, con tatuajes en todo el cuerpo, interpreta a una madame del burdel parisino, ronca y que se muerde el lóbulo de la oreja; Christopher Abbott como un siniestro recién llegado cuyas intenciones no se estropearán en esta crítica; Hanna Schygulla como un pájaro de las nieves que viaja en un crucero y que “no ha tenido sexo en 20 años”; y Suzy Bemba como una prostituta con quien Bella tiene un encuentro sexual queer y un vínculo quizás más especial. En el centro hay un giro deliciosamente fuera de lo común de Emma Stone, prueba de que, sea cual sea la frecuencia agrietada en la que ella y Lanthimos viajan, su alquimia es la verdadera.

“Poor Things” es la mejor película de la carrera de Lanthimos y ya se siente como un clásico instantáneo, mordazmente divertido, caprichoso y excéntrico, modesto y sin pretensiones, lleno de tanto que adorar que tratar de analizarlo todo en esta publicación resulta casi complicado a las ambiciones que la película posee.

Temporada de Premios 2024: Nominados a la 77ma entrega de los British Academy Film Awards

'Oppenheimer' lidera con 13 nominaciones, 'Poor Things' obtuvo 11. 'Barbie' obtuvo cinco nominaciones después de obtener 15 menciones en la lista más extensa, y habrá un ganador por primera vez del honor de director BAFTA cuando Christopher Nolan y Bradley Cooper compitan con cuatro nominados por primera vez en la categoría.

'Barbie' y 'Succession' lideran las categorías de cine y televisión, respectivamente, para la entrega de premios 2024, que se transmitirá por CBS, con nueve cada una.
