Han pasado 21 años desde que una película en idioma extranjero obtuvo por primera vez una nominación al mejor elenco en los Screen Actors Guild Awards, y el miércoles, el elenco de Parasite se convirtió en el segundo en conseguir un lugar codiciado para el primer premio.
Parasite del cineasta surcoreano Bong Joon Ho , una historia espeluznante de una familia sumida en la pobreza que se apresura a trabajar para un hogar rico, fue nominado para mejor Elenco de los Premios SAG junto a la nostálgica Once Upon a Time en Hollywood de Quentin Tarantino, The Irishman de Martin Scorsese, Bombshell de Jay Roach, y la sátira anti-odio de Taika Waititi, Jojo Rabbit. Parasite es el único contendiente independiente en un año repleto de ofertas de estudio donde muchas otras películas independientes: The Farewell, Waves, The Lighthouse, Honey Boy y Booksmart, por nombrar algunos, fueron excluidos.
Raramente ha prevalecido un ganador del Oscar a la mejor película sin obtener un guiño al mejor conjunto de SAG, aunque el más reciente ganador del Oscar a la mejor película, Green Book, no lo hizo.
Sin embargo, Parasite no consiguió ninguna nominación de actuación individual. La mejor carrera de actores verá a los incondicionales Joaquin Phoenix (Joker), Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari), Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Adam Driver (Marriage Story) y Taron Egerton (Rocketman), se disputan el premio. La 26a edición anual de los Premios SAG se transmitirá en vivo por TNT y TBS el domingo 19 de enero de 2020 a las 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. De Niro recibirá el premio Life Achievement Award, presentado por Leonardo DiCaprio.
